Moving Tips + Tricks
Simply put, moving can be stressful. Packing up your entire life and transferring it to your new home can be a daunting process. Whether you decide to hire movers or not, following some of these helpful tips can help ease your mind.
Create a Checklist + Budget
Start working on a checklist with a timeline in mind. The average time for a move is approximately two months, but it can be longer or shorter, depending on your circumstances. Once you have your timeline created, begin looking into your budget. Map out the cost of hiring professional movers, moving yourself but renting a truck and the cost of moving supplies (boxes, packing paper, tape.)
When you have a visual plan to use as a guide, it will help keep you on track.
Sending Out Notices
Another helpful list to create will be a list of who needs to be notified of your move. Common ones are utility companies, friends, family, your employer, banks and credit card companies. You can add a forwarding address by either visiting the post office or setting it up online. By creating this list before your move will ensure that you are not missing anyone.
Packing Tips
- Do not move with anything you do not want to keep.
- Invest in quality moving boxes.
- Dedicate an hour each day to packing.
- Give each room a different color packing label.
- Use the correct size boxes.
- Fill any empty space in boxes with packing paper or packing peanuts.
- Utilize hampers, laundry baskets and other household storage for moving.
Moving Day
Have a day-of plan. Designate one person to coordinate with movers to ensure there is no time wasted.
You will ultimately save time by not rushing. Taking the time to determine where and how the truck should be loaded will ultimately save you time in the long run.
By following these tips and making a moving plan, you will be on your way to enjoying your new home without the added stress!
